The group BTS’ new album sold more than 2 million copies on the day of its release.
Hanteo Chart, a real-time music chart, officially announced that BTS’ fourth full-length album “MAP OF THE SOUL : 7” had accumulated 2,137,292 copies at 7:45 p.m. on Monday, less than two hours after its release.
According to Hanteo Chart, sales of “MAP OF THE SOUL : 7,” the first tally in about eight minutes since its release to the world at 6 p.m., stood at 350,0005 and exceeded 1 million at around 7:10 p.m. Hanteo Chart explained that BTS is the first artist to achieve 1 million albums in the shortest time.
With cumulative sales exceeding 2 million in less than an hour, however, Hanteo Chart announced that BTS became the first artist to post 2 million copies in less than two hours after the album’s release.
BTS set a new record for its first week sales of 2,134,80 units with “MAP OF THE SOUL : PERSONA,” which was released on April 12 last year. The upcoming album “MAP OF THE SOUL : 7” surpassed the first week sales of its previous album in just one day, raising hopes for what new records BTS will write in the future.
The title track “On” of “MAP OF THE SOUL : 7” topped real-time charts on five music sites, including Melon, FLO, Genie, Bugs and Soribada, as of 7 p.m. on the release date. “On” recorded 123,489 users in an hour on Melon, leading the number of all-time users since the Melon chart was reorganized in February 2017.
“MAP OF THE SOUL : 7” is an album that looks back on the seven years since BTS’ debut as a group of seven members and a team, and contains a total of 20 songs, including its title track “On.” “On” is a song full of BTS’ powerful energy and sincerity, with the sound of a UCLA marching band recorded with a large-scale session. It contains BTS’ pledge to accept the given path as fate and continue to move forward.
